designers at Dubai Fashion Fiesta - inspired fashion
I headed out to Dubai Fashion Fiesta at the Dubai Exhibition Center on Monday the 22nd of June to check the talent that had descended from abroad. Here are three (+ one) of my top picks for Monday’s exhibitors. Don’t start drooling as none of them are available here yet.
To learn more about the event check out www.dubaifashionfiesta.com.
Debonair Debonair
Deborah, the UK based designer of DD, exudes the cool crispness of her wildly colorful range of shoes and accessories with her tats, gold caps, vintage frames, flash dress and super smile. Upon meeting her, I am taken in by her bright and beaming personality and knew instantly that she is the talent behind this funky collection. Eager to see more I have arranged to catch up with her while on the London leg of euro romp ’09. As Debonair Debonair is not currently sold in the UAE we must sit pretty until we can get our hands on Deborah’s goods. I will keep you updated on this designer and our impending UK rendezvous.
Sabrina Barnett Collection
Sabrina Barnett is an inspirational woman of many talents; supermodel, singer/song writer, motivational speaker, philanthropist and fashion designer just to get things started. This past weekend at the Dubai Fashion Fiesta she not only debuted her new line, the Sabrina Barnett Collection, she acted as the event’s brand ambassador and spokesperson of DFF 2009 and was a judge for the Emerging Designer Award.
For a woman in such high demand, I was impressed that she took a few minutes to chat about her line and the DFF experience. As she took me through her line of sportswear and eveningwear, which is infused with positive expressions that empower and celebrate women, I could feel her passion for the work she is doing. That excitement must have rubbed off on me, as it was a true pleasure to learn about her desire to create clothing that inspires positive energy and thinking thereby empowering those who wear and see her pieces. She was very impressed with the event and city of Dubai as a whole and anticipates a quick return to the Emirate to work on new projects and see her line flourish in the dessert land. I reckon the edgy yet positive nature of her sportswear, especially when she gets those Swarvoski encrusted positive expressions translated into Arabic. I admit that as both a woman and a designer, I was won over by her business and design ethos as well as her exquisite beauty and warmth.
Heydari Design
Pay attention TST followers from the motherland the next designer has boutiques in the Mid Atlantic region of the US. Miriam Heydari is the coveted designer behind Heydai. Not all women are content to wear conservative or classic wardrobes which why Heydari is a godsend to women all over the world. This line of architectural and avante gard clothing made from fine silks and linens really offers women great choices to exude sophistication and style while stepping apart from the pack.
I didn’t manage to speak with Mariam or any of her reps so I can’t give you any insight into the designer and her business but that won’t stop me from singing her sartorial praises.
This is defiantly a line for Zelda to check out.
Alter Ego
Although this next feature doesn’t cover a designer per se, Alter Ego is worth a mention as they had some cool pieces I would mind harboring. Alter Ego is an “umbrella boutique brand [that] provide[s] young, fresh talent from Pakistan with a platform to show and sell globally”. So basically some of the hippest stuff conjured up and produced in women’s fashion and accessories from Pakistan can be found here. It may sound strange to hear hip and Pakistan in the same sentence but don’t believe me just check out the pics.
